Animals are more able to self-shed a barbless hook without waiting for it to rust off ( NOAA now has proof of this!).More challenging to fish with (this, for a sportsman, is a good thing I’m told).Easier to remove from yourself if accidentally hooked.Allows for quicker release of the fish back into the water.Easier to extract from fish/sharks/turtles/seals if releasing.Lower mortality rate to fish (and therefore higher reproduction). In my last post I briefly discussed why circle hooks are the way to go, so here let’s just look at why barbless circle hooks are the better hook. There are many benefits to using barbless circle hooks. With all the maker and foodie trends going back to traditional approaches, the idea of returning to barbless hooks seems positively hip. 20 line because they tire and you can actuallly get them in on light gear.īut no, the chuck it in with a crapload of bait, then fall asleep till the beep goes off and the fish has half it's cheek pulled off from the stopping weight is way more fun.The barb is neither necessary, nor present on early hooks  fishing hooks used to all be barbless! The thinking is that the barb was initially introduced to keep live bait on the hook, and even then, only many thousands of years later. Give me a chance to use a bare hook and a crust and pick them off the top like I used to do irl and get 10Kg+ ones with. Make it realistic and show me the tiny bubble trails they leave when forraging on the bottom, right? So I can lower my hook in front of it as gently as possible and hope it finds it and takes it, rinse repeat. It goes for a lot of species but carp, for instance, do travel. When I used to go pike fishing with my dad in winter at his summer vacation spot, before fishing with live bait was banned here, he knew exactly how big any fish I caught was, because he'd fish there all the time. Pike do this, they have a few spots they hunt from. This effectively just means fewer fish in the exact same places as before. Ursprünglich geschrieben von Singular Fungi:The fish just don't sit in every hole anymore like they did before. Not sure what kind of a problem you have, and not interested btw. Have a nice day :)Īnd that was never stated by me either. All I did was point out that the assertion that the only reason most people use barbless tackle was because of being regulated by law is a false assertion. Funny how you accuse others constantly of personal attacks while at the same time slinging veiled insults. Go ahead and Google the places that have such regulations. Now go ahead and Google the places that don't.enough said I think. Have fun with your anonymity, just don't expåect to be taken serious then, with or without proving anything :-P LOL, I never said that such regulations don't exist.

Always remember: The USA are not the center of the world, atm they even drift away from it at high speed -). However, you clearly have not fished in many other parts of the world, where regulations *do* exist. I agree with you that barbless hooks (being bought or being modded) are the way to go if to protect a species. Ursprünglich geschrieben von Graubart:I was not referring to you, Fungi. We do this purely for the conservation side of things. Which I and many of my friends do without being regulated to do so.

The only way to even get barbless tackle around where I am is to make it yourself by pinching down the barbs with pliers. I find the assertion that the only reason people would use barbless tackle is because they are required by law to do so to be a false assumption. This means that the vast majority of the time when barbless hooks are being used by anglers it is for the conservation of species that they love and want to be around for future generations. I said that they are not in my state and they are far from the norm in almost all places. I never said that those regulations don't exist at all in the US. If not, proove it and lift your anonymity.īut hey, just continue, it's always fun to read such stuff -) It's very easy to cherry pick specific examples. Well, I assume you are a level 0 noob here, then. Oh, I see: With an anonymous profile that does not matter. Next time, before being personal and spreading venom, just do your homework, ok? It backfires directly to you, if you don't. And after all, when catch and release is mandatory, it is just outright wrong to use barbed hooks, for the reasons mentioned above, by the people who backed my post instead of shredding it :-P Also in the UK you find similar restrictions. The same applies to many norwegian streams which contain wild salmon. Ursprünglich geschrieben von Graubart:Well, referring (as an example) to the Flatiron Mountains near Boulder, Colorado, USA, where I was fishing trout a few years ago.
